My friend Shelly has ALS. She is slowly losing the ability to control her muscles, yet she lives a gracious and open life thankful for every moment. She is the most courageous person I have ever met. I am inspired and moved by her resolve to focus on what she can do instead of living with the regrets for what she has lost. As of today there is no known cure for ALS. Shelly will never be able to hike the Pacific Crest Trail or experience the challenges and joys of this world-class hiking experience.

One of my goals is to help Shelly raise awareness of and increase funding for research into effective treatments for those diagnosed with ALS.

I will be discussing my goal with other PCT thru-hikers and inviting them to post images from their hikes to Instagram using the #ShellysPCT hashtag.

Help us  reach our goal

I have had a number of people say they wanted to support me financially on my PCT thru-hike during the summer of 2016. I am honored and humbled that my story has resonated in your heart to the point of wanting to be generous. Perhaps that is how you ended up looking at this page. If so, I want to encourage you to put your generosity in action.
